This summer, I added Apple AirTags to my backpack and suitcases, and they proved to be a game changer—especially during flights with tight connections. It gave me peace of mind to know whether my bags made it to the next leg of the journey. When I traveled to Germany this summer, one of our suitcases didn’t make the connecting flight. Thanks to the AirTag, we knew right away and didn’t waste time looking for it at baggage claim. The following day, we went to retrieve the suitcase at the Munich airport, but the process wasn’t as simple as expected. Airport security didn’t have an accurate record of its location, and we were initially sent to the wrong terminal.
Fortunately, the AirTag showed us where the suitcase actually was. After explaining this to airport staff, we were redirected to another terminal. On what turned out to be an incredibly busy travel day, it still took two hours to get through security and claim the bag—but without the AirTag, we likely would’ve spent all that time in the wrong place! While the situation was chaotic, having the AirTag saved us from additional frustration and helped us track down the suitcase with minimal wasted effort. If you’re a frequent traveler or planning a trip with multiple flights, I can’t recommend AirTags enough!

As someone who has done a lot of traveling as a backpacker, one piece of gear stands out as my ultimate travel essential; my 90-liter backpack. It was my constant companion, carrying everything I needed, and anything new I picked up along the way. While the size of my backpack almost matched the size of me, it proved to be far more practical than lugging around a suitcase.
Navigating cobblestone streets, hopping on and off buses, and trekking through uneven terrains were all made easier with my gear snugly on my back. It gave me the freedom to explore without the hassle of wheeling a suitcase behind me. For anyone planning extended travels, I highly recommend considering a backpack over a suitcase. It’s a reliable, versatile, and surprisingly comfortable way to carry your essentials while keeping your hands free for the adventures ahead.

Something that I never travel without is my Nintendo Switch. On travel days, there tends to be a lot of downtime, and my husband and I try to find ways to stay entertained and pass the time. We really enjoy playing games on the Nintendo Switch, and find that we utilize it a lot while traveling. We use it while waiting at the airport, on the airplane, and sometimes even at night while relaxing on our hotel balcony. It’s a whole lot of fun, and allows us to spend some time together while waiting to embark on the next step in our journey.
