Traveling internationally with your children can be such an incredible adventure. You get to explore the world together and experience amazing destinations, cultures, people, activities, and food. But before planning your trip, you must ensure that your little ones have valid passports. And with current passport processing times taking longer than usual, you should highly consider expediting your child’s passport to ensure they receive it in time for your trip.
If you want to expedite your child’s passport but don’t know where to start, we can help! Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to expedite your child’s passport application, as well as information about the associated costs and processing times:
How to Apply For an Expedited Passport For Your Child
Applying for an expedited child passport is quite simple when you choose to go with Swift Passport and Visa Services. Simply follow the steps below, and before you know it, you’ll have your child’s passport ready to go for your international trip.
Ensure That You Can Answer “Yes” to Some Important Questions
Before starting the application process, you must be able to answer “yes” to the following questions:
- Is your child a U.S. citizen?
- Is your child 0-15 years of age?
If you could answer “yes” to both questions, great! You are now ready to begin applying for your child’s expedited passport. On the other hand, if your child is not a U.S. citizen, they cannot obtain a United States passport, and if your child is over the age of 15, they will need to apply for an adult passport.
Decide Which Processing Duration is Right For You and Your Child
The next step is to decide which expedited passport processing option will work best for your needs. We currently offer 2 different expedited processing times, which you can see below:
- 4-6 Business Days
- 10 Business Days
When deciding which processing time to choose, we recommend considering how quickly you’ll need to obtain your child’s passport. If you have any questions about our processing times, please contact a member of our team. We’d be happy to help you decide which expedited processing option is right for you and your child.
Complete the Checkout Process and Pay All the Required Fees
Once you have confirmed that your child is eligible for a US passport and have decided on which processing duration you want to go with, it’s time to finish the checkout process and pay all the required fees. We will inform you of how much you owe so that you know exactly what you’ll need to pay. To see our current expedited child passport processing fees, please visit our website.
Gather All Required Documents and Visit a Passport Acceptance Facility
After you’ve submitted payment, you’ll need to gather all the documents required to obtain your child’s passport. Some of the documents you’ll need include:
- Proof of Citizenship
- DS-11 Passport Application
- Passport Photo
- Copy of Both Parents’ Valid Photo ID
After placing your order, we will provide you with a complete list of documents and instructions, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting anything.
You will then need to take the required documents to a post office or county/city clerk to get your child’s expedited passport application executed by a passport acceptance agent. It’s important to note that your child and both of their parents must be present for this step.
If you need to find a passport acceptance agent near you, simply visit this website and enter your zip code. We highly recommend calling the passport acceptance facility beforehand to confirm that the website details are accurate.
Send In Your Documents to Swift
You’ll now need to send all required documents to our Chicago office. It’s important to note that you should send your documents using FedEx or UPS, not USPS. Please send your documents to the following address:
Swift Passport & Visa Services
1 E Erie St.
Suite #525
Chicago, IL 60611
Once Swift receives your documents, we will complete your order and ship you your child’s passport. NOTE: If you are getting more than 1 application sealed, each application must be in its own sealed envelope. Multiple applications in 1 sealed envelope may be denied and cause extensive delays.
Expedited Child Passport Fees
Fees for an expedited child passport vary and can change occasionally. As of June 1, 2023, here are our current expedited child passport application fees:
$699 Swift Service Fee
$599 Swift Service Fee
Please note that the above fees do not include government, shipping, or processing fees, which will vary based on your selections.
