Citizens from a number of countries are able to enter the US without a visa through the Visa Waiver Program.
Any foreign nationals or aliens who want to visit the United States need to have a valid passport and a visa in order to enter the country. However, citizens from a number of countries are able to enter the US without a visa through the Visa Waiver Program. This program allows foreign nationals to enter the United States for tourism, medical, or business purposes (but not full-time employment) for up to 90 days. The 90 day limitation cannot be extended. If foreign nationals would like to visit the United States for longer than 90 days, then they will need to obtain a regular visa.
Citizens of the following countries are able to apply for a visa waiver through this program:
- Andorra
- Australia
- Austria
- Belgium
- Brunei
- Czech Republic
- Denmark
- Estonia
- Finland
- France

People from Canada are allowed to stay in the United States for up to six months for tourism purposes and may file for an extension through the US Citizenship and Immigration Services office. Anyone else from a country not on this list will need a visa in order to visit the United States.
Application for the Visa Waiver Program is Pretty Painless
Applying for a visa waiver is a relatively simple process. You will need a valid passport from your country of origin and a credit card in order to pay a small administrative fee. The application asks for information such as your passport number and issuance date, your country of citizenship, your flight information, your contact information, and where you intend to stay in the United States. The application also asks for information about your health, including any diseases you may have been exposed to and vaccinations you’ve had.
If you receive a visa waiver, you can use it to travel within the United States and also from the United States to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and adjacent islands. Bear in mind however, that if your travel to one of these places extends beyond 90 days, you will likely not be able to reenter the United States in order to complete your travel back home.
