Over recent years, Costa Rica has been making a name for itself as an ideal travel destination. Travel to Costa Rica is quite affordable from anywhere in the United States, and once you get there, you can expect to enjoy high-end accommodations and activities for much less than they would cost in other countries. Costa Rica vacations are painted with beautiful sunsets, thick forests, and pristine beaches. Here are just a few of our favorite things to do in Costa Rica:
-
The Nicoya Peninsula
The Nicoya Peninsula is made up of an 80-mile stretch of beautiful shoreline. The long beach is dotted with small towns filled with restaurants and quaint hotels. Nosara Beach is a perfect destination for surfers, as this portion of the coast tends to get big waves and strong currents.
If you’re not a strong swimmer, you might want to stay out of the water around here, but you’ll still have plenty to enjoy walking along the coast and taking in the brilliant sunsets that can be seen from Nosara. Further in from the shore, there is endless forest to explore, including hikes to waterfalls and viewpoints.
-
Arenal Volcano National ParkÂ
Arenal Volcano used to be one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It is best observed from La Fortuna, a small town at the base of the volcano where you can take in the immense size and beauty of this natural wonder. From La Fortuna, you can also venture to nearby hot springs and enjoy a peaceful day soaking your body and spirit
-
Monetverde Cloud Forest Reserve
The humidity in this mountain rainforest is usually 100%. The unusual weather creates a mystical sort of environment that truly feels out of this world. The rainforest is home to over 3,000 species of animals and plants. Don’t be surprised if a monkey or two joins you along a hike through this exceptional stretch of wilderness.
