We gauged the most profitable companies in India based on info at MoneyControl.com, which listed profits from the most recently available reports. The site gave net profits in the Indian currency of the rupee. Amounts were listed in crore rupees, abbreviated “rs. cr,” or an amount equivalent to 10,000,000 rupees. To get the net profit amount in rupees, we multiplied the rs. cr amount by 10,000, and then converted the rupees into U.S. dollars.
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)
Headquartered in Mumbai and doing business across the world, Reliance Industries Limited is a privately owned holding company originally founded in 1966. The conglomerate owns businesses across the country engaged in everything from petrochemicals to telecommunications, hydrocarbon exploration to retail. RIL easily ranks as one of the most profitable companies in India with a net profit of 27,417 rs. cr, or about $4.06 billion in U.S. dollars.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)
Founded in 1968, Tata Consultancy Services provides IT consulting, services, business solutions outsourcing for customers across the globe. Profits clocked in at 22,882 rs. cr, or about $3.4 billion in U.S. dollars.
Coal India Limited (CIL)
The coal mining company of Coal India Limited was founded in 1975, and continues to provide the majority of coal production for the entire country. Headquartered in Kolkata, CIL is a state-owned entity that doubles as one of the largest coal producing companies in the world. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC)
