Whether you’re scheduling a last-minute trip or just realized you or your family members’ passports are not up to date, there may come a time when you need a passport ASAP. The U.S. Department of State’s routine processing time for passports is six to eight weeks, and its expedited processing time runs two to three weeks. Neither falls into the ASAP category, but expedited passport services from Swift certainly do.
The cost of expedited passport services depends on two main factors:
- Passport type, whether adult or child
- How fast you need it processed
We’ve included a rundown on costs for both adult and children passports below.

What the Fees Cover
The fees for expedited passport services cover the work that needs to be completed by both the government and Swift.
The government fee is what the U.S. Department of State charges for issuing a passport. It covers the government’s cost of processing and handling your application and providing a passport book.
The expedited passport fee covers Swift’s cost of processing and submitting your passport application.
While the totals listed come pretty close to the final cost, there are two more expenses to factor into the equation.
One is a $7 processing fee that’s applied to each government fee charged to your credit card. The fee covers Swift’s costs associated with obtaining, handling and submitting a money order to the government on your behalf.
The other is the cost of shipping, which varies depending on the overnight carrier you choose.
What the Fees Cover
One more thing to keep in mind is any additional action you may need to take for the fastest processing times available. If you need expedited passport services in three business days or fewer, you must call Swift at 877-917-9438 to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible. Expedited services of four business days or more can be done entirely online.
