If you’re planning a trip to China in the next few months, there have been a few changes at the Chicago China Consulate that you should be aware of. It used to be that if you submitted a visa application at the China Consulate in Chicago before 11:00 AM, you could get your visa back on the exact same day.
Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. The fastest you can get a visa through the Chicago China Consulate is now three business days, and the price for the service is still $170 – what it was for the same day service.
For anyone who travels to China often, this change is a real bummer. You’ll have to pay the same price for a less convenient service. To make matters worse, after taking the time to drive downtown to submit your application, you’ll have to drive back a few days later to make the pick-up, dealing with traffic, expensive parking, and the inconvenience of finding a good time to make your pick-up during business hours.
Fortunately, there are a few bits of good news…
- You Can Still Get 3-Day China Visas through Swift

And if you live well outside of downtown Chicago, this service is a no-brainer. It will save you a ton of time and money.
- Even if You Don’t Need an Expedited Visa, Swift Has You Covered
