Additional Requirements for Former Citizens of China, Hong Kong, & Taiwan
All former Chinese citizens are required to provide a copy of their naturalization certificate
Former Chinese citizens need to also fill in 1.6H (former Chinese ID number and passport number) regardless of whether they have had a China visa before or not
Depending on which province the applicant use to reside in China, the Embassy or Consulate may request applicant submit proof of cancelling of household registration- as of December 19, 2024
Children of Chinese, Hong Kong, or Taiwan descendants who were not born in China need to provide a photocopy of their previous China visa. Parent’s passport scans, green card scans, and even scans of their old green cards if they are US citizens now. If the most recent visa is in a previous passport, please supply a photocopy of that passport’s name page as well. If it’s the first time application or photocopy of previous Chinese visa sticker is not available, a photocopy of child’s birth certificate and a photocopy of parents’ foreign passport or a photocopy of foreign permanent residence identity card (for example: US passport or the US green card) is required.
Applicants born in China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, applying for the Chinese visa for the very first time, must also provide their (previous) original Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan passport, or government issued ID from Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan. If you current name is different from the name your in your birth certificate, ID or old passport, you must provide name change documents.
Applicants born in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, who have applied for China visa before on a different passport, need to provide a copy of their previous passport an previous visa. On some occasions the consulate will request the actual old passport and old visa.
Applicants born in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Mainland China must provide their name in Chinese Characters and city of birth on the China visa application form. (Section 1.1D on application form). If born in Taiwan, make sure 1.6G is answered as “China,” not “Taiwan.”
Children who were born in China AND who have 1 parent that is a Chinese Passport holder may be required to appear in person to apply for a Travel Document.
Applicants who were adopted from China, applying for Chinese visa the first time, must provide original Chinese passport, a photocopy of the adoption certificate, a photocopy of the US Naturalization Certificate along with the application. If the name on US passport is different from the name on the adoption certificate, a photocopy of name change court order is also required.
If an applicant has ever been issued a travel document in the past, they are not eligible to apply for a China visa and must apply for a Travel Document
